What is CUSIC™ ?

CUSIC™ is an IRB-approved consumer research experience designed to help understand how functional products actually make people feel.

Instead of only asking you how a product affects you, we use comfortable, wearable EEG technology to gently measure your brain activity before and after product use. This allows us to objectively capture non-therapeutic effects like relaxation, energy, mood, mental clarity, THC effects, and more, directly from real consumer experiences.

It’s non-invasive, safe, IRB-approved, and designed to feel more like participating in an innovative experience than a traditional research study.

Our Goal

Our goal is to help premium brands prove which products truly work, so people like you can trust and easily recognize them and make confident, worthwhile purchase decisions.

Participants Needed

The CUSIC™ project is completely dependent on the willingness of our community members to contribute their time and participate in our IRB-approved EEG studies.

Zentrela Research Lab

We invite consumers to share their product experiences at the Zentrela Research Lab in Hamilton, Ontario where participants bring their own products and consume them while we use our scientific data collection method to accurately and reliably document the complete experience.

Studies FAQ

CUSIC™ is the name of our EEG-based non-therapeutic research model conducted through IRB-approved protocols.

Generate objective and neurophysiological (EEG) data about the non-therapeutic effects of recreational, wellness, and health products to create  science-backed informational, educational material for the open market. Of course, the participant’s personal information remains in absolute confidentiality!

No. Our EEG technology, called Cognalyzer®, is not a medical device and our IRB-approved research model is not for medical or therapeutic experimentations. We do not diagnose, treat, mitigate or prevent cognitive or any other type of health related issue, illness or sickness. We simply quantify non-medical mental state changes caused by a functional product.

A typical study takes 3 – 6 hours to complete. The schedule of visits and duration is discussed with you prior to you making a commitment to join the study.

The identity of Participants will be held strictly confidential. After signing the consent form, the Participant will be assigned a participant identification (the “Participant ID”) code and a participation identification code (the “Participation ID Code”). Any information collected from the Participant will be linked to these two codes and the link between these two codes and the Participant’s identity will be held in protected storage. Anyone working with the information will not know which information belongs to which person.

If you are interested in a study we are recruiting for, click on one of the above links and register! One of our recruitment team members will respond with more information.

After you register, we will arrange a time to go through a telephone screening with you, asking you more specific qualifying questions and informing you of the details of the study. Once we complete the screening, if you qualify you will be contacted to enroll in the study.

Yes. You are free to leave the trial at any time. If you do decide to leave, you should let the research team know and tell them why you are leaving the study. Early termination measures will be done to ensure your safe exit from the study.

Our research focuses only on non-therapeutic, non-medical effects, such as temporary changes in mood, emotions, feelings, and other everyday mental states—including THC impairment, mental clarity, or confusion. We do not study, diagnose, or treat any medical conditions.

We only study products made with legal ingredients, manufactured under established good manufacturing practices, and that are commercially ready.
